This genuine Yamaha OEM fuel tank damper (3R3-24173-00) is a crucial rubber cushion designed to sit between the fuel tank and the frame. Its primary function is to absorb high-frequency engine and road vibrations, protecting the fuel tank from metal-to-metal contact with the frame. This prevents stress cracks, paint chafing, and annoying rattles, making it essential for preserving both the structural integrity and the finish of your vintage Yamaha's fuel tank.
4. Vehicle Compatibility
| Make | Model Range | Application |
| Yamaha | XS400 / XS650 (Late 70s/Early 80s) | Fuel Tank Mounting |
| Yamaha | RD250 / RD350 / RD400 | Fuel Tank Mounting |
| Yamaha | Various 70s-80s Yamaha Models | Fuel Tank Mounting |
Note: As a "universal" damper used across many models, it is often found in the front or rear tank mounts. Verify the placement against your model's parts schematic, as some tanks require multiple dampers of this style.
5. Fitment Details
This is a direct OEM replacement. To install, ensure the mounting bosses on the frame and the corresponding contact points on the underside of the tank are clean and free of old, cracked rubber or rust. If the fit is tight, use a silicone-based lubricant to assist in seating the damper into the frame hole. It is highly recommended to replace these whenever the fuel tank is removed, as old dampers often become compressed, brittle, or deformed, which will cause the tank to sit incorrectly and increase the risk of vibrations damaging the tank mounts.
